I think that's a great idea Mo. Has anyone got any great ideas how to market this Blog? I know it's already being advertised in the CJS Buzz and on the school website.
Might it be possible to get a link to it from the Derby City Council website?
Maybe.....I have just checked out the Derby City Council website....there are lots of school websites linked to it, but ours isn't one of them. If our website was linked from there, then the Blog would be more accessible. However, the audience for this Blog is more likely to be the parents of CJS pupils, who would access it via the school webite rather than going to the DCC website. We need to encourage parents to participate more frequently perhaps. We could get more external interest by placing onto the DCC website though. Perhaps we could look into it Mo?
A good idea - I'll speak to the LEA and see if they will provide a link to our website. SH has provided a link from the Home Page of the school website to this blog and I hope this will help.
I think this is a brilliant idea. I like your idea of a reminder of what letters have been sent out. Good luck with your blog. Best wishes from a school in Wales Pontybrenin Primary.
I looked at your school's website B James......it's great!

Well done with the blog - and Merry Christmas!
I'm impressed with my first visit to the Blog, especially the reminder of which letters should have reached home.
This seems a good place to pose a question which occured this week:
Despite schools being "inclusive" how come only children who regularly have school dinners have the chance to invite their family to join them for lunch? If it is possible for a "Sandwiches" child to book a one off Christmas dinner, could this occur for Parents' lunch day; or allow parents to join their child by bringing sandwiches? Unfortunately as a working parent I am unable to participate in any circumstances, but I am interested in your verdict.
Hi Emma,
Great to have your contribution - thank you.
I have been discussing this with colleagues and we are working on a solution. The reason we offered the parents' lunches to those whose children already have a lunch was purely because we have to restrict numbers to 15 for each date. I will get back to you early next week and hopefully be able to make a suggestion that will enable you to join your child for lunch.
Watch this space!
Thanks again for your contribution.
Hi Emma,
We agree that it would be fair to open up the parents' lunches to all children and their parents/carers. Our past experience shows that it helps promote school dinners and parents can see at first hand the type of dinners we provide for our pupils. Some children choose to continue to stay school dinners after they have tried a lunch with their parents. However, we can still only cater for a maximum of 18 (15 was what we originally agreed, but Mrs Drake and our Catering Manageress think 18 would be acceptable) due to the number of children going through. This means that we will continue to offer parents' lunches on a first-come-first served basis to the first 18 parents on each date. I'm sorry you aren't able to make one of these dates, but we would be more than happy for you to come along on another date of your choice to have a lunch with your child, if you are able. Thanks for your comments.

RE: INVITING PARENTS TO SCHOOL DINNERS.
Instead of inviting all parents in each year group to join their child for a dinner but limiting it to 15-18 parents, why not do it like at the Infants. They have 13 dates in the year, one for each class, rather than per whole year group. Usually 4-10 parents turn up from each class on each date. This way more parents can come. You could still put a limit on the number of parents allowed from each class, but then if only 2 or 3 parents want to come out of a particular class then parents from other classes who didn't 'get in' can be 'rolled over' to this class date instead.
Please, please, please could we return to having the weekly spellings on the website - it saves many a tear on a Thursday night!
